Plan to Conduct a Removal
Action at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois
After examining the results
of environmental investigations for the Fort Sheridan property still under use by the Army, the Navy and the
Army Reserves, the Army plans to conduct activities to remove soil
contamination from four areas that pose risks to human health and the
environment when residential land use scenarios are considered. Federal and
state regulators concur with this proposed plan of action. The Army has
documented its findings in detail in the remedial investigation (RI) and draft
final feasibility study (FS) reports for the
sites. The proposed removal action
sites include Water Tower Soil, Coal Storage Area 4, Building 70, and Vehicle
Equipment Storage
Area 8.
